Torlon® 4203L is an unreinforced, lubricated, pigmented grade of polyamide-imide (PAI) resin. It has the best impact resistance and greatest elongation of all the Torlon® grades. Torlon® PAI has the highest strength and stiffness of any thermoplastic up to 275°C (525°F). It has outstanding resistance to wear, creep, and chemicals. Torlon® 4203L resin offers outstanding electrical properties, which makes it ideal for high performance parts such as connectors, switches and relays. In addition Torlon® 4203L polyamide-imide can be used in applications such as thrust washers, spline liners, valve seats, bushings, bearings, wear rings, cams and other applications requiring strength at high temperature and resistance to wear. Torlon® polyamide-imide (PAI) is the highest performing, melt-processable thermoplastic. The amorphous polymer has exceptional resistance to wear, creep and chemicals and performs well under severe service conditions up to 260°C (500°F). Torlon® PAI also has superior electrical and structural characteristics at high temperatures, an extremely low coefficient of linear thermal expansion, and exceptional dimensional stability. Typical applications include non-lubricating bearings, seals, valves, compressors, and piston parts, bearing cages, bushings, and thrust washers.Parts made from Torlon® PAI polymers perform under conditions generally considered too severe for thermoplastics. Typical applications include aircraft hardware and fasteners, automotive transmission and powertrain components, and oil & gas exploration and recovery equipment. The material’s excellent electrical insulating properties have made it a common choice for semiconductor fabrication and testing as well as electrical and electronic components.Polyamide-imide (PAI) powders are widely used in high-performance, non-stick, and corrosion-resistant coatings for a variety of other demanding industrial uses.

Torlon® PAI is virtually unaffected by aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated and fluorinated hydrocarbons, and most acids at moderate temperatures. The polymer, however, may be attacked by saturated steam, strong bases, and some high-temperature acid systems. Proper post-cure of Torlon® PAI parts is necessary to achieve optimal chemical resistance.Like other high-temperature engineering resins and composites, Torlon® PAI parts absorb water, but the rate is slow and parts can be rapidly restored to original dimensions and properties by drying.Of particular interest to aerospace and automotive engineers is the ability of a polymer to maintain its properties after exposure to commonly used fluids. Total immersion tests show Torlon® PAI is not affected by aircraft hydraulic fluid at low temperatures or by common lubricating fluids and turbine oil, even under stress at elevated temperatures.
